Florida Statute 627.7288 is the law that says your insurance provider must waive your deductible if you submit a claim for auto glass repair or replacement through them. The reason this law was put into place is so that your deductible would never be the reason you decided to put off that repair or replacement. Florida lawmakers understand that your windshield is simply too important to your safety. Did you know you can be issued a traffic ticket for a crack in your windshield? Your windshield is so much more than a window to keep the love bugs out of your teeth. If you have a frontal collision and your passenger airbag deploys, your windshield is intended to steer the airbag to protect the front seat passenger. If you have a rollover accident, your windshield is part of the car makers' design to hold up the roof! A small crack can become a big crack, and a big crack can get in the way of your vision, as well as compromise the strength of the windshield. Would you be satisfied taping a latex balloon to your steering wheel and calling it a manual airbag? What about using a bungee cord as a seatbelt? When it comes to safety, you should accept nothing but the best, and this should extend to your windshield as well.
Some people are under the impression that you are only allowed one windshield replacement per year by your insurance policy. Your insurer probably doesn't want to pay any more than they have to, but they are not allowed to limit the number of glass replacement claims you are allowed to make. They are also not allowed to cancel your policy for this reason alone. (They might cancel your policy because your front bumper has a strange attraction to any rear bumper you see at a stop light, but not because of an auto glass claim)
